dtSearch Case Study — WebDocumentz TM

dtSearch your WebDocumentzTM

“We evaluated a few search engines and dtSearch was the only one that was fast and powerful while seamlessly integrating with our COM based architecture.”

Tampa Bay Systems (TBS) set out with its WebDocumentz line of software to take the best aspects of traditional Windows-based document management systems and apply them to managing documents over the Web. The idea was to scan, view, edit, search and upload important business documents using nothing more than a Web browser. Whether a company needs a new invoice retrieval screen for accounting or the ability to give certain customers access to specific documents via an extranet, WebDocumentz is the way to do it.

The initial product release was slated to include title, date and category searching. But as they looked at the market research, TBS's management team decided that a top-notch full-text search engine would be key to the product's success. Said Adam Yahre, TBS's CEO: "Because of the recent proliferation of Web search engines, customers are starting to demand the same level of search power be included with any web-based products they buy."

“Now our customers can perform the most advanced searches without leaving their browser.”

TBS chose the dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine over others in the field. "We evaluated a few search engines and dtSearch was the only one that was fast and powerful while seamlessly integrating with our COM based architecture," said Aaron Stine, TBS's Chief Technical Officer. "Now our customers can perform the most advanced searches without leaving their browser."

The dtSearch Text Retrieval Engine supports a broad range of file types, essential for indexing the wide variety of documents that can be stored in a WebDocumentz database. TBS is also leveraging dtSearch's HTML file conversion engine for non-HTML file formats such as Word, Excel, RTF, etc., as well as the dtSearch Engine's support for searching ZIP files.

"We're very excited to be included in WebDocumentz," says the Vice President of Sales of dtSearch Corp. "It has got a great feature set for managing large document sets of OCR'ed and other files. Web-based document management makes excellent sense today!"

Apart from searching, WebDocumentz also includes the following:

  • Scan: Instantly scan documents directly from a Web browser.

  • View and Edit: View documents in native format or convert to HTML on the fly. Edit mode automatically handles check-in, check-out and version tracking for all document types.

  • Upload: Drag and drop or copy and paste multiple files directly into a browser for immediate upload.

  • Manage: Manage users, groups, databases, sessions, folders, security and more. Organize documents by user-defined category, folders or both. Document "stapling" links associated documents together.

  • Customize: WebDocumentz ships with an API that empowers Web developers to create and customize new end-user screens in minutes.
